Dogs of the 9th Ward (D9) is -- or, will soon hopefully be! -- a effort both to rescue stray/abandoned/abused/neglected dogs from the 9th Ward neighborhoods, as well as to promote responsible dog ownership. To date, my only activities have been:
- dog rescue
- fund raising
- raising awareness
In the future, I hope to expand our programming to include:
- low-cost spay/neuter and shot clinics
- canine ownership and interaction education
- dog owner hurricane evacuation assistance
Before I can do most of these other things, I need to raise awareness and recruit help: I am not a vet, nor an animal behavior expert, nor a humane educator -- so clearly I am not qualified to provide these services on my own! If you think you might be able to assist with any of this programming -- or want to help in any other way! -- please email me at kellygaus@gmail.com.
I've recently adopted a dog found in the Lower 9th at Our School at Blair Grocery. Do you have ideas for low cost veterinary service, spay/neuter, or flea treatment? Contact me at: david@osbgnola.org.
ReplyDeleteKelly- My name is Kendall and I love what you are doing and recently saw you on Pit Bulls and Parolees on Animal Planet. I recently adopted a little mini pin mix that was tied to a tree and I can't stand that she was left there alone. 'Lizzie' as I named her is the sweetest little girl I could ask for. I want to offer my help should you need it. I do think that making some calendars or t-shirts would be a good fundraiser. I wish I could have a beautiful pit bull but sadly my complex won't allow it. I want that to change because these animals do not deserve this kind of treatment. You can reach me at kc325_84@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteKelly,
ReplyDeleteI really commend you for what you are doing. I would love to help you raise awareness for your rescue, so I wrote about you and your blog on my blog pdx pit bulls. I also attached a link to your page. Awareness is so important, I want you to know that I am going to do everything I can to get the word out about you. :)
