dogs of the 9th ward adoption process and application

If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please email D9adoptions@gmail.com.

If you are interested in learning more about how to adopt a 9th ward dog, you're in the right spot. The process shouldn't be too painful, but there are several steps:
  • fill out an application by clicking here -- be sure to hit "submit" at the bottom.
  • your application will be reviewed and vet references checked
  • you get to meet your chosen 9th ward dog
  • you take your 9th ward dog home!
Your application will be responded to within 24 hours, and the whole process shouldn't take more than a week (long-distance may be longer).

Adoption requirements are: at least one vet reference; two additional references (breeder, trainer, another vet, rescue volunteer, or anyone who knows you and your pet(s) well); a willingness to come to New Orleans (9th Ward) to pick up your new family member; $75 adoption fee ($100 for puppies under 4 months).

Note: When you agree to take home a 9th Ward dog, you agree to commit to giving them a "fair opportunity" to adjust to your household. If you are not sure that you can handle the dog at your house during the adjustment period, please take more time to consider bringing a new dog into your home.
