Feast of Saint Roch fundraiser TODAY!

Friends of D9, please come out today, August 16, from 4pm-7pm, and join us in celebrating the Feast of Saint Roch, patron saint of dogs and those who love them! This will be a really fun event, and your well-mannered canine family members are welcome. ALL the proceeds go to D9, and believe me, it's much needed! Scout and Basil begin heartworm treatment on Tuesday, so I am in desperate need of funds for that. In addition, there is an injured dog in the Lower 9 I'm trying to take in, and that will of course result in more vet bills!

This should be a really fun day, so please join us and show your support! Pauline will be in attendance, and hopes to see you there. Applications will be available for adoptable 9th Ward dogs.

It's been an exciting week! The press has been good to us here at D9. In addition to Sheila Stroup's column last Sunday (link posted previously), check out these articles at examiner.com: one is about each of the adoptable 9th Ward dogs' stories (here: http://bit.ly/5pFND) and the other is about our event today (here: http://bit.ly/DWlRx). We also have an upcoming article on the New Orleans Institute site, and I spoke with Humane Society volunteers and reporters yesterday about the state of dog care in the 9th Ward.

Also, we have had a lot of adoption interest this week, so I'm hopeful that several 9th Ward dogs will be going home soon!
